What is involved in a massage ?
Filling out a Health History form
At your first appointment, you will be asked to fill out a Health history. Please make sure that you arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment, that way you allow adequate time to fill out this Health History form. The therapist will go over it with you. This helps to ensure a safe and effective treatment.
After that you will be explained in detail what an Assessment will involve and will be given the option to give consent or not. This Assessment will help focus the massage on areas that your primary concern. The Assessment usually takes no more than 10 minutes.
Clothing and Privacy
Therapist will explain where the massage will focus on. Client can undress to whatever clothing they are comfortable with. During the massage, only the areas that the therapist is working on directly will be undraped and only with the client’s permission. If the client chooses to keep on clothing, the therapist will work around that.
Therapist will leave the room to give the client privacy to undress. After a couple of minutes the therapist will knock and wait for the client's response, to make sure that they are ready for the therapist to come in.
Please note that the client has the right to stop or change the treatment at any time.
What type of oil is used?
The oils used at Rejuvenate are hypoallergenic. If you have sensitive skin or allergies please let the therapist know before treatment begins. Sometimes the therapist may suggest the addition of essential oils to the oil. This is only done with the client's consent and if client has no allergies or sensitivity to them.
Anything else I need to know before or after a treatment?
Avoid eating 1 hour before a treatment for comfort. Use the washroom before the massage, so that you feel comfortable during the massage.
Wear comfortable clothing when you are coming for the massage.
After the massage, you will be provided with a glass of water. However, it is important to drink plenty of water afterward the treatment.
How often should I get a massage?
This depends on what you want to achieve through massage therapy, the reasons you are getting massage therapy and whether or not you adhere to the home care recommended by your therapist. At the end of your treatment the therapist will recommend a treatment plan including frequency of treatment.
Why do you need to know what medications I am taking?
In order to ensure a safe and effective treatment your massage therapist needs a full health history including any medications or supplements you may be taking. Some medications will require the therapist to alter her approach to treatment or present contraindications for massage therapy.
Do I need a referral from a doctor for massage?
One should always check with your doctor before trying different therapies especially with regard to illness or medications.
Also, some insurance companies require a prescription or referral from a medical doctor in order to reimburse of massage therapy treatments.
